The 2012 Australian Geomechanics Society (Sydney Chapter) Symposium with the title “Advances in Geotechnical Aspects of Roads and Railways” was held at the Australian National Maritime Museum at Sydney’s Darling Harbour on 10 October. During this symposium 14 papers were presented to an audience of approximately 120 engineers. Babak Hamidi, GFWA’s marketing manager, presented “Application of Dynamic Compaction in Reclaimed Roads“.

Soletanche Freyssinet companies are strong supporters of geotechnical events. GFWA annually holds a competition for final year undergraduate students with projects in Geomechanics and sponsors other local AGS events in Western Australia. Menard sponsors international geotechnical events, and Menard Bachy who is a supporter of geotechnical events in Oceania was a gold sponsor of AGS 2012 Symposium. Sister company, Reinforced Earth was also another sponsor of the Symposium.
